Rad (international title: Hell Track) is a 1986 American sports film directed by Hal Needham from a screenplay by Sam Bernard and Geoffrey Edwards (son of Pink Panther creator Blake Edwards). The film stars Bill Allen, Lori Loughlin, Talia Shire, Jack Weston and Ray Walston, along with 1984 Olympic gymnastics champion Bart Conner.
The soundtrack was released on 12\" vinyl and cassette, by Curb Records in late 1986, and featured various artists including John Farnham in his pre-Whispering Jack days, 3 Speed, Sparks, Hubert Kah and Real Life. On February 9, 2014, it was released for digital download at the iTunes Store. It is also available to stream on Spotify. Farnham's \"Break the Ice\" was featured on a special list of the best songs from '80s action film montages that appeared on music website, No Echo.[8]

For all the love that people have for Rad, let me tell you, Trashin' was just as big in the video rental stores of my youth. Maybe it's because I skated and so much of my culture came from Thrasher Magazine, but this movie is just as good to me, if not as celebrated today. I mean, Vinegar Syndrome isn't rushing out a 4K of this one.Corey Webster (Josh Brolin!) is an amateur skateboarder new to L. A. who wants to win a downhill competition when he meets Chrissy (Pamela Gidley, Cherry 2000 herself!), a girl who knocks him for a loop. She just happens to be the sister of Hook (Robert Rusler, A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge), the leader of The Daggers, a punk rock skateboard gang who now wants to knock out our hero.Sure, it all works out, but along the way, some of the greatest skaters of the 80s show up, like Tony Alva, Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, Christian Hosoi and Steve Caballero. There are also appearances by Brooke McCarter (Paul of The Lost Boys), Brett Marx (Jimmy Feldman from The Bad News Bears movies) and Josh Richman, who directed several Guns 'n Roses videos. Oh yeah - Sherilyn Fenn plays Velvet, one of the Daggers' girls. The soundtrack to this is kinda all over the place, with a theme song by Meat Loaf, of all people, yet there are plenty of scene correct punk and metal shirts, as well as Fear and the Circle Jerks songs. Perhaps the best music part of this film is an appearance by the Freaky Styley-era Red Hot Chili Peppers, back before anyone cared who they were and they'd show up in movies like this and Tough Guys.Director David Winters started his career as an actor, showing up on Broadway in West Side Story and Gypsy before becoming a choreographer - he was the first to choreograph the Watusi, originated the Freddie and helped Elvis and Ann-Margaret dance in Viva Las Vegas. His first directorial effort was the Alice Cooper film Welcome to my Nightmare and he also was behind the Joe Spinell movie The Last Horror Film. His producing credits are insane, with everything from Linda Lovelace for President* to Young Lady Chatterley, Killer Workout and owned Action International Pictures, where David Prior made all manner of films. So yeah. Thrashin'. Go find it.*Lovelace dated Winters after divorcing Chuck Traynor. She credited him for introducing her to culture.
It doesn't matter if its a bad movie with bad 80's quality. It was after this movie that Europe started to get into some serious skating, including me as well ;) I'm sure that most of the living legends of skateboarding thinks this is a kick ass film. Its so 80's and that rules! BTW How many movies in the 80's where really good blockbusters LOL. Well this movie has it all, skates, skaters, romance, cool 80's skate tricks, red hot chili peppers, and a hell of a romeo and juliet theme all over it. I have watched it like 300 times on a very bad copy VHS tape. Hehe to bad i doesn't have my old Powell Peralta board with kryptonics wheels still laying around. I recommend this movie to any and everyone. Hugs and kisses from me ;)
Flash back to 1986 and BMX reigned supreme in the collective consciousness of kids everywhere thanks to RAD, the movie that made bicycle motocross a widespread sensation. Whether you wanted to trick and freestyle in the streets, hit the ramps and parks, or rip through trails, the flick inspired a lot of kids to get into the sport.

I love this so much! the characters, music, art, backgrounds, and the way the story was explored in Hong Kong in 1986 showed how much effort was put into it. I will cherish this game, it's one of the best VNs or rather any type of media in general I've encountered, it's been a long time since I felt so attached (and so fast too!) to a story and its characters who felt real, I enjoyed reading and getting to know them with all the details about their lives and gestures.
Oh my... I regret waiting and buying it on a discount, but hope it is better to buy here on itch then on Steam (better revenue share), and ask my partner to buy awesome soundtrack too.So many outfits.. so many stunning landscapes and backgrounds. So many things hits home even if I am not from Hong Kong of 80ties, but I am glad it was not too much heavy for me (like... uh.. The Chinese Botanist's Daughters movie) and.. gives me strength.
The soundtrack is truly stunning and fits the vibe PERFECTLY. Honestly, I'll probably buy the soundtrack too cuz it's just SO GOOD. I especially loved \"Smooth Funk\" by Jared Stevenson, which I know is not included in the soundtrack, but I'm so thankful to HK1986 for introducing me to not only this, but other songs too that were mentioned in the story! I had the Deanie Ip song on replay the entire day yesterday LOL. Those 2 songs especially made me wanna fall in love so badlyyyy. The \"Smooth Funk\" one always makes me feel like I'm chilling in Sam's apartment when I hear that rad bassline. If anyone hasn't yet, check out the Spotify playlists for this game! I think I found Sam's Mixtapes (A and B sides, which is sooo cute and so classic cassette) on O&B's tumblr. UWUUU
Thank you! I have enjoyed this story so much. I appreciate the effort that went into creating the backdrop of 80s Hong Kong, and I could certainly see a semblance to movies from Wong Kar Wai and others, especially with the vivid colors and art style. It worked for me anyway. I was lucky enough to spend some time in Hong Kong with friends before, and I could almost smell, taste, and hear the place come to life throughout the game. The adult content was just right for me, as you have described in your blog - it doesn't feel voyeuristic but flows naturally with the story. Like a sprinkle of spices on an already exquisite dish. Again, a wonderful game that I can totally recommend!
BUY THIS!!! This is easily the best visual novel I've ever read, and one of the best games in general that I've ever experienced. -It needs to be made into a movie. The art and visual style is vibrant and gorgeous, the music -outstanding (the credits theme slaps so hard). The setting, dialogue and story felt so real and impactful, you can tell how personally invested the developers were. The setting of Hong Kong in the 80s is so incredibly interesting, and the effort taken to make it feel authentic is unreal.
My only disappointment came when the credits movie started to roll and it was over... but that song... I could loop that song for hours. As I write this after having played through a third time to get the 'ultimate' scene after the finding the second ending, I'm just sitting here listening to the menu song over and over. Excellent audio design.
When I first try out the game, the design of the game GUI gives me the feeling of 80s-90s time as it takes the old television design. It is a great match with a story that took place in 1986 and brings people back to that time like you are watching a drama unfold.
Thus the manual for me is: C:\\Users\\\\AppData\\Roaming\\itch\\apps\\a-summers-endWhile the game is in: C:\\Users\\\\AppData\\Roaming\\itch\\apps\\a-summers-end 2and thepatch was then downloaded in: C:\\Users\\\\AppData\\Roaming\\itch\\apps\\a-summers-end 3
The weird thing is, this plays in 1986, so some dark corner in my brain is yelling at me to find out what happened with Michelle & Sam in the following 34 years. I'm really hoping on a follow up of some sort.
